John Hecht, CPA, has been named Interim CEO by Independent Living, Inc. Board of Directors. An award-winning financial services executive and community banker, John’s experience includes seven years as CEO of WPS Community Bank. A nationally recognized $100 million start-up bank, John led the formation, organization and leadership development of this wholly-owned WPS Health Insurance subsidiary. In 2015, Starion Financial acquired WPS Community Bank, and John facilitated the transition as market president. Previous experience includes serving as president of the board of Employer’s Coalition on Health in northern Illinois, and as banker for several assisted living and senior community organizations including Independent Living, Inc. Most recently, John established J Hecht Consulting LLC, a firm focused on providing interim executive leadership, and helping community institutions improve performance and develop growth strategies.
John graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in accounting. In 2016, he received the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award from his alma mater. An active community volunteer, he has held executive leadership and board level positions in banking and numerous community and professional organizations.
Brent Lindell, president of ILI Board of Directors, noted that John’s “executive leadership, financial background and accounting acumen” are a good fit for Independent Living, Inc. while a search for a permanent CEO is conducted. “John brings great experience ensuring an organization’s competitive position in the market. He also is known for building great teams and helping community-focused organizations thrive,” Lindell says. “John’s knowledge of construction financing is another significant advantage for us as we complete Phase 1 of our new, $26 million Tennyson Senior Living Community. This development will have 60 assisted living units opening this fall on Madison’s north east side. John will be able to help us determine the next phase which will develop independent senior apartments. We’re excited to have John on our team at Independent Living, Inc.”
