Evening Meals on Wheels Low-Salt Heart Healthy Option

When it’s important to reduce the salt in your diet, Evening Meals on Wheels (EMOW) has a great tasting low-salt option.
EMOW offers a 2-gram (2,000 mg) low sodium alternative. This is important for people who deal with chronic heart conditions. Eating too much salt causes the body to hold or retain water. This worsens fluid build-up and makes the heart work harder, says Linda Lane, registered dietitian and chief operating officer at Independent Living, Inc.
Many people find it challenging to prepare low-salt meals at home. The Evening Meals on Wheels menu has 2-gram low-sodium options “that still have lots of flavor,” says Michelle Christenson, manager of the EMOW program. For more information, call Christensen at 608-204-0923.
