Independent Living, Inc. is proud to announce that a grant of $3200 was awarded to its Evening Meals on Wheels (EMOW) program from the national Meals on Wheels America (MOWA) association. Funding for the grant came from Subaru’s 2018-2019 “Share the Love” event, its annual holiday campaign. Subaru donates a portion of sales proceeds to a handful of national charities including Meals on Wheels America, of which Independent Living is a member.
The Evening Meals on Wheels program was one of seven MOWA members in Wisconsin that qualified to receive funds, according to Erika Kelly, chief membership and advocacy officer at MOWA. The award comes at the conclusion of “March for Meals,” the national campaign during March that calls attention to senior hunger, food insecurity, Meals on Wheels programs and the need for support and volunteers. Locally, Independent Living initiated several promotional efforts to raise awareness and partnered with senior centers in Fitchburg and Middleton to secure city proclamations declaring March as March for Meals month. Additional proclamations were made by the cities of Monona and Madison, and Dane County.
